At Alpine Helicopters, we are dedicated to reducing our environmental impact, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and playing our role in a sustainable future.

Through our Green Initiative we aim to offset the greenhouse gas emissions generated from our Helicopter Tours in Canmore, AB, and Stoney Nakoda, AB, by investing in Gold Standard-certified carbon offsets with PlanetAir.

While this represents a positive step forward, we aspire to make an even greater environmental impact, so we are also collaborating with One Tree Planted to plant trees as part of our commitment to a greener future.

Recognizing that the full carbon benefits from new trees take time, in doing both, we are committed to immediate and long-term action, fulfilling our responsibility for the present and future generations.

What is a Carbon Offset?

A carbon offset amounts to a one-ton reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Alpine Helicopters purchases the equivalent in carbon offsets based on carbon emissions produced through tours and invests offsets in projects with PlanetAir to support large-scale conservation in Canada.

Working with PlanetAir allows us to offset greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) through Gold Standard- Certified climate projects. Each tonne of GHG offset through these projects is traceable through a unique certificate, proving an assurance of the integrity, reliability, efficiency and credibility of the offset.

Why Plant Trees?

We firmly believe that supporting reforestation through One Tree Planted will help contribute to a greener future. Trees play a crucial role in carbon sequestration, purifying our air and water and supporting biodiversity. We take pride in incorporating our commitment to reforestation, facilitated by One Tree Planted, as an essential element of our Green Initiative.

How Does it Work?

Starting January 1, 2024, guests will have the option to add a small donation to make their tour more environmentally friendly. For every $2.00 donated (per person), 1 tree will be planted locally in collaboration with One Tree Planted, and the remaining funds will be invested in offsetting the carbon emissions from the helicopter tour through Gold Standard-certified carbon offsets with PlanetAir.

There is a donation option at the checkout for your online booking. There is also the opportunity to donate in person upon the arrival of your tour.

Where is the Impact?

One Tree Planted is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is on a mission to make it simple for anyone to help the environment by planting trees. Planting trees in Alberta is an effective method to restore the land and eventually return the area to a spruce-dominated mixed wood forest. Soil stability is an immediate ecological benefit of reforestation, and the area provides enough light for a new forest to grow efficiently. Notably, BC is home to incredible and iconic biodiversity like the Canada Lynx, Snowy Owl, Woodland Caribou, Moose, and more. Forests cover two-thirds of the province – an area of almost 60 million hectares. Sadly, insect pests and diseases have decimated enormous areas of forest. These dead trees become fuel for wildfires, and in the summer of 2023, B.C. experienced its worst wildfire in history, with over 2.84 million hectares burned.
