Today marks the Winter Solstice, the shortest day and longest night of the year. Here is an old post from @kananaskissafety reminding everyone to factor daylight into their plans at this time of year. Days are short; if something goes wrong in the dark, the response will be more involved and may take a substantially longer time.

Behind the scenes look at rescue techniques with the Canadian Association of Wildness. CAWM was created with the goal of connecting practitioners, researchers, educators and professionals with an interest in Wilderness Medicine from across Canada and promoting the field as an area of focus and specialization. Membership includes paramedics, nurses, SAR volunteers, ski patrollers, first responders, academics and physicians. Thanks for the photos, @fleeceflannelfun

We are proud to work with our partners at @golden.search.and.rescue. #Reshare GADSAR was tasked by RCMP to respond to an injured skier near Amiskwi lodge. The subject sustained a hip injury and the party activated their InReach. SAR techs long lined the subject to a staging area and then loaded them into the helicopter. They were flown to Golden and transferred to BCAS.

One could say that the Alberta Rocky Mountain tradition of having tea on a mountaintop began at Lake Agnes. Since 1905, the @lakeagnesteahouse has been serving, with pride, fine loose-leaf teas to visitors from around the world. Here is a shot from @johnmstump of our aicraft servicing this historic tea house in the fall.
Lake Agnes was named for the original First Lady of Canada - Lady Agnes MacDonald, the wife of Canada’s first Prime Minister. In 1886, Lady MacDonald visited Lake Agnes and was delighted by the beauty of this idyllic lake and the hanging valley it sits in.
The Lake Agnes Tea House was originally built in 1901 by the Canadian Pacific Railway as a refuge for hikers and started serving tea in 1905. The log building was replaced in 1981 but still features the original windows, tables and chairs.

Who needs to travel to New Zealand or Europe when there’s a glacier in your backyard? The Haig Glacier is home to the Beckie Scott High-Performance Training Centre (BSHPTC) for winter athletes to train during the summer. To reach the camp, cross-country skiing athletes must hike or helicopter up the 3,075-meter summit of Mount Jellicoe. Thanks for the behind the scenes footage @_dylantylr
